Alojz Štróbl Exhibition Identity
The exhibition at the Liptov Gallery of Peter Michal Bohúň celebrated the 170th birthday of Alojz Štróbl, a
sculptor born in nearby Kráľova Lehota who became one of the leading figures of sculpture in Central Europe
at the turn of the 20th century.
Two of his significant bronze sculptures, Our Mother and Wild Boar, have stood in front of the gallery
entrance for many years, so visitors meet Štróbl before they even step inside. Over time, both have taken on
the turquoise green patina that bronze develops with age. I photographed them and turned the photos into 3D
objects with a raw bronze texture, showing the sculptures as they looked freshly finished and taking the
viewer back in time to when they were made. The patina green completes the palette and carries into the
gallery itself, on a painted wall in the exposition and on the artwork labels.
The identity is split into two parts. The exhibition is led by the Our Mother sculpture, combined with the
patina green and a bitmap overlay of the sculptor’s coat of arms. The lecture series switches to the Wild
Boar, paired with blue and a bitmap version of a period photograph of Štróbl.
